Israeli Soldiers Assault Hunger Striking Detainees In Nitzan Prison

Undercover soldiers of the Israeli Prison Administration assaulted, Friday, several hunger-striking Palestinian detainees in Nitzan Prison, in Ramla, and unleashed their dogs on them, during violent searches of the detainees and their rooms.

In a statement to the press, the Palestinian Detainees’ Committee, said that the soldiers also preventing the detainees from performing Friday prayers.

The detainees were attacked by many soldiers, who also unleashed their dogs on them and their belongings.

It is worth mentioning that Israeli recently transferred 70 detainees to Nitzan prison (Ramla); 40 of them were in Hadarim, while thirty were moved from Nafha, Ramon and Asqalan.

Hadarim prison is largely used to force hunger striking detainees in solitary confinement, under inhumane conditions, repeated assaults and violations.

More than 1500 Palestinian political prisoners, held in various Israeli prisons and detention centers, are ongoing with the “Freedom and Dignity” hunger strike, which started six days ago, demanding basic rights.

On Friday, the soldiers conducted extensive and violent invasions into various sections and rooms in Nitzan prison, and confiscated salt, clothes and even copies of the Quran from the detainees.

The Israeli Prison Authority has also been frequently transferring the hunger striking detainees from and to various prisons, in addition to forcing many into solitary confinement.

In addition, the Maan News Agency has reported that Israeli Member of Knesset Oren Hazan of the Likud Party, recently stated that “Israel’s prisons are filled with detainees, but there is also a place for them underground,” a statement hinting for their death, and was among various racist statements made by many senior Israeli politicians.
