Report: Israel arrested 95,000 Palestinian children since 1967

RAMALLAH, (PIC)- Around 95,000 under-aged Palestinian children have been detained by Israeli authorities with no legal mandate or proper trial since 1967, a United Nations humanitarian study said Wednesday.

A report conducted by the Military Court Watch says that since the imposing of martial law by Israel in 1967, the occupied West Bank has witnessed an average of five children imprisoned or detained per day, according to information provided by the Israeli military and the UN.

The report included over 300 pages of legitimate proof regarding the ill-treatment of Palestinian children held captive in Israeli prisons.

Over half of the detained Palestinian children had shown obvious evidence of torture, and 200 of the tortured detainees were in fact minors.

The report details were published by the rights group Military Court Watch (MCW) to the ‘UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.’

UNICEF previously disseminated similar information, in which it was stated that “the ill-treatment of children, who come in contact with the military detention system, appears to be widespread, systematic and institutionalized.”
